My World Tuesday - Helsinki in a blizzard

Winter has returned with a vengance. We haven't had this much snow in one go even once before these last two days all winter long. Makes one wonder ... will there ever be a spring for us?

Here are pictures from a street in Helsinki (the capital of Finland) under a snow storm. I know I said we would be moving further west from my town Espoo in my last post, as I do prefer the older kind of architecture but in all fairness I should perhaps not give a false impression that around were I live all is old and quaint as that is not the truth of the matter. Most is modern but that is not always completely boring either.

Trams are still part of the public transport system in Helsinki. Here are two of them passing eachother. (My car is the red Toyota parked on the left)

The house at the end I do find quite interesting. The electical wires above are for the trams. Snow plows, as the one on the right, are having a busy time.

On closer inspection it is a house of apartments allthough one could imagine that it would be some public building.

Thankyou to the My World team for this lovely meme.

For noen fine bilder!

In the shot above the last one the building looks like it's leaning. Quite a disconcerting sight! I think good architecture is interesting be it new or old. And this place is definitely interesting!

Helsinki is very modern. Your photos are very impressive and I especially like the bottom most one. That's a beautiful building with an unusual structure and great colours. Thank you. Our big cities also have tram.

Rather strange and very modern buildings I thought Helsinki would have old houses too. It's such a pity when they destroy old houses and built glass boxes instead, like they did in Brussels !

Kiitos käynnistä blogini luona. Voi, mikä lumisoppa ensimmäisessä kuvassa! Ja järkky muoto talossa! Oli kauan sitten kun kävin Helsingissä.

Yeah, a great amount of snow here in Trondheim as well. I haven´t seen this Global Warming - effect yet :-)

I love the first and last shot the best. The snow falling makes me feel like I am there. The colorful building just makes me smile.

I like all the different colors of the buildings, and the architecture of the last one IS quite interesting. I guess with a winter like yours, you will REALLY appreciate Spring and Summer!

You certainly do have a lot of snow! When will you start having flowers blooming? I love the architecture! Here they seem to prefer concrete boxes, rather than the colours and angles that you have shown. Is this a new part of Helsinki?

Very interesting photos but that last one with the building is very interesting

The buildings do have interesting lines. That is enough snow to make travel difficult. Unfortunately, we will likely have more snow like once in a while that into April.

Amazing pictures - you live in such a different world to mine. I find it difficult to imagine myself living with so much snow

Pikku Huopalahti on hieno paikka ja sieltä saa vaikka mitä fotoja kun hieman kiertelee. Kaunista lumen tuloa.

Nama ovat mielenkiintoisia talvikuvia, koska varikkaita. Hyvia, ainakin minusta.
