Sky Watch Friday N:o 37 - Shades of blue

Last week I had shades of yellow. This week I move onto another main colour in the spectrum of the sky.


Usually I prefer simple pictures but this time I thought of posting one a bit busier version.

Kop kop kop.
"Kuka siellä?"
"Se olen minä. Kevätlapsi."
Avaan oven ja siinä hän on, tuo suloinen pieni kevään tyttö, jonka hiukset ovat kultaa auringosta ja hengitys tuoksuu vastaleikatulta ruoholta.
"Tulin vain kertomaan että nyt ei mene kauaa kun olen jo kokonaan täällä. Pieniä valmisteluja pitää minun vielä tehdä."
"Voi rakas kevätlapsi kuinka sinua olen odottanutkaan."
"Toin tuliaisiakin. Tällaista pientä esimakua."

Knock knock knock.
"Who's there?"
"It is I, the spring child."
I open the door and there she stands that sweet little girl with hair of gold from the sun and a breath that smells like newly cut grass.
"I just came to tell you that it won't be long now before I will be here alltogether. I have some small details to arrange before that."
"Oh dearest spring child how I have been waiting for you."
"Look I brought you some presents too. A small taste of what's to come."

Ryntään ovelle ajatellen, että ihana kevätlapsi siellä taas odottaa. Mitä vielä? Kylmä henkäys tuhahtaa kasvoille kun avaan oven ja siellä takana seisookin vanha rouva talvi valkoisen tukkansa kanssa.
"Luulitkos pääseväsi minusta noin vaan eroon? Katso olen peittänyt kevätlapsen lahjat."
"Hyi sinua ilkeä vanha akka. Odottelin sinua kovasti jouluna. Tulitkos silloin? Etpä tullut. Nyt ei sinua enää kaivata."
"Vai ei. Kysypä vaan koiriltasi. En minä hevillä aio lähteä."

Next morning:
Knock knock knock.
I rushed to the door thinking the delightful spring child would be behind the door again. But what? A cold blast hits my face as I open the door and see old mrs Winter with her white hair standing outside.
"Did you think you could get rid of me that easy? Look I have covered over the gifts from spring child."
"Shame on you you nasty old hag. I waited so for you at Christmas. Did you come then? Oh no. Now you are not welcome anymore."
"Am I not. Why don't you ask your dogs. I will not be going out without a struggle."

Ja niin se vanha talven akka peitti kevätlapsen lahjat ja paljon muutakin ... And so the old winter woman covered over the spring child's gifts and many other things too













Koirieni mielipidettä en kysynyt. Se tuli selväksi muutenkin ... I never asked the dogs about their opinion. It was made quite clear without asking.

My World Tuesday - Helsinki in a blizzard

Winter has returned with a vengance. We haven't had this much snow in one go even once before these last two days all winter long. Makes one wonder ... will there ever be a spring for us?

Here are pictures from a street in Helsinki (the capital of Finland) under a snow storm. I know I said we would be moving further west from my town Espoo in my last post, as I do prefer the older kind of architecture but in all fairness I should perhaps not give a false impression that around were I live all is old and quaint as that is not the truth of the matter. Most is modern but that is not always completely boring either.






Trams are still part of the public transport system in Helsinki. Here are two of them passing eachother. (My car is the red Toyota parked on the left)


The house at the end I do find quite interesting. The electical wires above are for the trams. Snow plows, as the one on the right, are having a busy time.


On closer inspection it is a house of apartments allthough one could imagine that it would be some public building.

Epäselvää ... Unclear

Sain idean laittaa tällaisen epäselvän kuvan tänne aina maanantaisin Valkyrieniltä. Yleensä en niitä säilytä mutta tämän kerran tein niin kun se on minusta aika hupaisa. Tai siis molemmat ovat.

I got the idea of putting an unclear picture here every Monday from Valkyrien. Normally I don't keep them but this time I did as I find it quite amusing. Or the pair of them really.

Ljubahan se siinä oli lumikylpyjä ottamassa. Kuten huomaatte Ljuba ei lumituiskuja tarvitse kun osaa tehdä ihan omat tuiskunsa.
It was Ljuba taking a snow bath. As you can see she doesn't need any blizzards as she can make her own.

Sunday Scenery - Icy isolation

As you can see, while for some the first crocuses are already blooming, for others the winter still holds on to its grip. Still, I don't mind as long as there's light and the sun is shining. Neither does my dog Luca in the picture.

The pictures are from a seaside place called Kopparnas in southern Finland about 45 km west of Helsinki. I quite often like to go there.

Havaintoja ... Observations

Kevät tulla porskuttaa vaikka ei noin kokonaiskuvaltaan ihan siltä vaikutakkaan vielä. Onkin keskityttävä yksityiskohtaisempiin havaintoihin. Toki monet niistäkin ovat vielä talvisia laadultaan.

The spring is on its way even if it doesn't quite seem like it looking at the whole picture yet. One has to concentrate on more detailed observations. Still many of those are still more wintery by definition.


Kotka on laskeutunut ... The eagle has landed


Hassu luminyppylä (muurahaispesäkö?) ... A funny snow mound (an ant hill perhaps?)


Jonkun ajan päästä tässä kiviseinää vasten kasvaa uudet tuoreet piikkiohdakkeet ... After a while here in front of the stone wall will be growing new fresh Spear Thistles

Puissa on jo kuitenkin havaittavat lehtinuput ... The trees are definately already budding

Viime vuotinen linnunpesä saattaa tulla uusiokäyttöön ... Last years birds nest will perhaps be used again


Linnut ovat kuitenkin kovin aktiivisia ja laulavaisia... The birds at least are very active and full of song


Joillekin ei enää koskaan koita uusi kevät ... Some will never again see the new spring
