Sunday Scenery - Rocks and bridges

At the bottom of the hill. Remnants of a snow castle on the brittle sea ice in the background.

Reinforcement of rocks for a jetty (not showing in the picture) behind some reeds

Small wooden bridge over a brook

Larger concrete bridge over the bay

Sky Watch Friday N:o 37 - Shades of blue

Glorious skies are only a click away so move the curser to the above banner and press once.

Last week I had shades of yellow. This week I move onto another main colour in the spectrum of the sky.

Usually I prefer simple pictures but this time I thought of posting one a bit busier version.

Kevätpäivän tasaus ... Spring equinox

It was today that important milestone. Quite wintery it still is though. However today I saw the first green tips of crocus leaves sticking out of the ground in a place were the snow had melted away. That really cheered me up even if the sea ice still lies on the water at the Porkkala peninsula as far as the eye can see.

Jäätä, jäätä silmänkantamattomiin ... Ice, ice as far as the vision reaches

Niin myös lähempänä rantoja ... So also closer to the shore

It's not quite that drull though. Here we have some progress.

When the seagulls return to the mainland and start to fly in the lower airspaces it is a good sign.

So the snow slowly melts away revealing more earth for the little birds to rummage in.

Flowing water can be admired at the rapids and at the same time my little friend too.

Näinhän se virtaa ... And this way it flows

Toisaalta vielä voi myös nautiskella makromaailmasta ... On the other hand one can still enjoy the macro world.

Tai miksei ihmisen tekeleistä kuten tästä koristeellisesta lintujen ruokintapöydästä ... Or why not man made things like this decorative bird feeding table

Tai vaikka tällaisesta söpöstä traktorista ... Or this cute little tractor

Karvaa ja sulkia ... Fur and feathers

Kävellessäni pitkin jokia tulee nähtyä kaikenlaista. Tuntuvat jokia pitkin menevät alueet olevan myös ratsastajille mieleen.

While walking along riversides one sees all sorts of things. Seems the areas surrounding rivers are also popular with riders.

Horses are to me such beautiful and valiant creatures and would in my opinion demand a little bit more respect than having someone sit like a haysack on their back whilst playing with the cellphone.

Onneksi useimmat ratsastajat ottavat homman tosissaan
Luckily most riders take it seriously

Voiko ihanampaa ollakaan.

Even though those warmblooded thoroughbred horses are the epiphany of beauty to me this is the HORSE. Small but tireless and tough. The only pure finnish breed of horse. A real worker in any conditions.

Jokia pitkin puusto on yleensä todella tiheää

Alongside the rivers the trees are often growing in abundance

Sehän on hyvä asia pikku sirkuttajillemme

That is a good thing for our little song birds

Ihania sammalkivirinteitä löytyy joistakin paikkoja

Wonderful mossy stone slopes can be found in places

The river is melting but what might be the thing reflecting in the water?

Toisin paikoin jokeen valuu vuolaasti vettä salaojaputkista

In places there is a rich flow of water into the river from underground drainpipes

Monet tiet ylittävät Vantaan joen. Tässä on Lahden moottoritien alittava kävelytunneli.

Many roads pass over the Vantaa river. Here is the pedestrian tunnel going under the Lahti motorway.

Esittelin koskikaran tässä blogissa vähän aikaa sitten. Meninkin tuonne Espoon kartanon koskelle katsomaan oliko pikku kaveri vielä tallella. Olihan se ja kovin oli valppaana. Kohta kai se lähtee pohjoiseen. Kuten näette se on rengastettu.

I introduced the Dipper to you a while back. I went to the Mankki river rapids to see if my little friend was still there. He was and keeping a watchful eye on the surroundings. I suppose soon he'll fly up north for the summer. As you can see he has been ringed.

After a moment I could see what made my little friend so watchful. Along the river an otter came swimming and I've heard that they are also parcial to dippers. This time the otter was deprived of his bird steak.

To me seeing an otter in nature this close was a real treat. I stood there a long time and waited for its return but it did not swim back. The whole episode happened so suddenly that I had no time to focus the camera on the otter.

Sunday Scenery - landscapes

I tend to like photographing watery motives even if they still are frozen to a great extenct over here in Finland. This time I thought that I would concentrate on dry land instead. Standing on a high hill I was taking pictures of a valley below that is situated in the outskirts of Siuntio, a small town west of Helsinki, and the hills rising up on the opposite side.

I always think that b&w images have their very own feel about them so one of the images I took in monochrome.

Watery Wednesday N:o 25 - all about ice while it still is there

Watery Wednesday is wonderful meme that concentrates on (you guessed it) water. Visit the site and join in or just go and admire other peoples watery areas.

At the moment the temperatures pendle on both sides of zero centigrades so the spring meltdown has slowly started.

Lumikatsaus ... Snow watch

Helmikuun nimi lienee selvä kun katselee joitakin näistä kuvista. Helmiäisen hohtoa kun lumessa on aurinkoisella ilmalla.

The name of February in finnish translates to pearl month. Why it's called this probably has its roots in how the snow glissens like pearls when the sun comes out.
